Job Title: Grounds Assistant (2 positions available)
Hours: 20 hours per week (includes weekend working)
Pay: £13.69 per hour
Contract: Permanent, Part‑time
Location: Camelford (various Council sites)

About the Role

Camelford Town Council is seeking two reliable, enthusiastic Grounds Assistants to join our Maintenance and Grounds team in keeping the town’s green spaces and facilities clean, safe, and welcoming.

This is a hands‑on role working outdoors in all weathers, across a wide range of tasks including:

  • General grounds maintenance: mowing, strimming, planting, weeding, and light tree work
  • Litter picking, emptying bins, and keeping Council areas tidy
  • Cleaning public toilets
  • Basic repairs and maintenance of Council assets
  • Supporting upkeep of:
    • Allotments
    • Cemetery
    • Orchard
    • Enfield Park
    • Play areas
    • River Camel
    • Car parks
    • Public toilets
    • Benches, signage, and equipment
  • Assisting with Council events (e.g., Fun Week, Camelford Show, Winter Festival)
  • Covering duties when other staff are on leave
  • Occasional simple admin tasks and putting up posters
  • Providing friendly customer service to residents and visitors

 

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys practical, physical outdoor work in all weather
  • Has good communication skills and works well in a small team
  • Is reliable, proactive, and takes pride in their work
  • Can be flexible with duties when required
  • Has grounds‑related experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Has relevant qualifications such as strimmer/mower certificates (desirable but not essential)

An average of 20 hours per week is expected, with seasonal variations and some regular weekend work.
