Car Parks

Churchfield Car Park

There is a common misconception that Churchfield Car Park was gifted to the people of Camelford. In fact, Camelford Town Council purchased the car park from North Cornwall District Council for £140,000, funded through a Public Works Loan. The loan is being repaid at a cost of £9,725 per year until 2029.

In 2017/18, the Council undertook a comprehensive review of the car park, including its management, enforcement, current and future capacity requirements, legal obligations, funding arrangements, and maintenance needs. The review was carried out to establish a sustainable and cost-effective long-term approach for this important community asset. Following extensive public consultation, in which 58% of respondents supported the introduction of parking charges, a charging scheme was introduced in 2019.

To support residents, businesses, and visitors, the first two hours of parking remain FREE. After this period, parking is charged at a rate of 50p per hour.

Income generated from the car park helps to meet the costs of loan repayments, maintenance, management, and the continued provision of the facility for the benefit of the community.

Clease Road Car Park

Clease Road Car Park was transferred from Cornwall Council to Camelford Town Council as part of Cornwall Council's devolution programme. Prior to the transfer, Cornwall Council funded substantial resurfacing and improvement works to the site. The transfer enabled Camelford Town Council to take responsibility for the management, maintenance and future development of the car park in order to better meet local needs.
